Unplanned Rest Day

I took a day off yesterday.  Which is so not like me.   Did you see this photo on the CrossFit page this week?

This is me.  Lately when I take weight over my head (like in the thruster and push jerks that we did this week) I feel like the photo on the left.   When I get to the top of the lift my back feels like I am pulling on the muscles right around my spine.  It doesn't HURT or feel especially sore after, but I am afraid that I am going to pull something.

On Thursday's push jerks I tried to work on keeping my abs tight at the top of the lift, and that helped for a couple of reps but then when I fatigue I get that curve again.  Not sure what to do about this.

So yesterday's WOD was dead lifts.  Heavy dead lifts.  I decided to give my back a rest.   Wish I would have gone in and tried to PR.

Check out my about.me profile!

  1. That left shot looks painful. If I get too much curve going on in the low back with any overhead lift, I feel it for days.

My suggestion is to go lighter until you are solid in the form, keeping the core tight with every lift. Muscle memory will kick in when the loads get heavier. Or it should, anyway.
